Sign Code Sparks Fly in Nevada
On October 18, local sign companies and ISA staff met with city planners in Sparks, Nev., to discuss sign code issues prior to public meetings regarding their proposed sign code. ISA’s James Carpentier and others in attendance expressed concerns with proposed methodologies to measure sign area for wall signs and ground signs. At another meeting on October 22, most of the discussion focused on various aspects of the regulation of EMCs, such as sign area (the industry wants an increase from 25 percent to 67-75 percent of total sign area), brightness standards, nonconforming issues and operational modes.
ISA’s Finding Common Ground document regarding the regulation of EMCs provided the sign industry’s perspective to these concerns. Public hearings in Sparks are expected to occur later this year. For more information, contact James Carpentier.
