Seeing the Light in Arlington
On July 12, the Arlington County (Va.) Planning Commission removed two provisions opposed by ISA from the new sign ordinance recommended for passage later this month. ISA’s Kenny Peskin had testified in opposition to language establishing limits on sign illumination, as well as the treatment of nonconforming signs. Both provisions now have been omitted in the version of the bill being considered by the County Board. Over the last 16 months, ISA staff has participated in more than a dozen meetings, public forums, and stakeholder focus groups. The revised ordinance (which can be found here) will result in increased flexibility of sign locations, allowable sign forms, and a greatly streamlined permitting process.
