Salt Lake City Votes “No” on Restrictive EMC Regulations
On Tuesday, the Salt Lake City Council unanimously voted to strike the proposed restrictive regulations for electronic message centers. The council also took action to separate the city’s on-premise and off-premise regulations. This positive outcome came as a result of the sign industry and sign users making their concerns known at public hearings and behind the scenes with local officials. For example, on Jan. 3, 2011, the City Council listened to more than 30 individuals who objected to the proposed regulations. The council has kept this issue open for further study, which means that ISA and the sign industry will continue to educate Salt Lake City officials on the economic necessity and other community benefits of effective signage.
