Planners Trained on Impact of Signs and Sign Technologies

More than 25 planners and sign code officials learned about sign construction technologies, controls of EMCs, legal issues in sign regulation, the economic impact of signs and the process in developing sign codes during a “Planning for Sign Code Success” seminar May 30 in Houston, Texas. The event was co-presented by the Houston Section of the American Planning Association Texas Chapter (APA), International Sign Association (ISA), the Greater Houston Sign Association (GHSA) and the Signage Foundation Inc.

Speakers included Stew Edinger (@FederalHeath], Euless, Texas), Joel Heine (@Daktronics, Brookings, S.D.), David Spatholt (Northern Kentucky Area Development District, Florence, Ky.), and ISA’s Kenny Peskin (@signcodeguy). Since 2011, ISA and the Texas Sign Association have presented planner education events in Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston.

In 2014, ISA, its Affiliated Associations and the Signage Foundation Inc. plan to educate hundreds of planners on the value of on-premise signs. Later this year, ISA and its Affiliated Associations plan on unveiling new online educational resources geared to planners, as well as presenting additional planner education seminars in Oregon, Louisiana, Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, California, and Connecticut. For more information, please contact ISA’s Kenneth Peskin or Texas Sign Association’s Leona Stabler.
