Planners Educated About Sign Industry

Planners Educated About Sign Industry

Educating planners and local officials about the importance of effective signage is crucial to the development of reasonable sign codes. That’s why ISA was so excited to educate planners serving over 1.18 million residents of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island more about the best ways to regulate on-premise signs. Forty-five planners and sign code officials learned about sign construction technologies, best practices in municipal sign code regulation, legal issues in sign regulation, EMC controls, viewer perceptions of signs in the urban and suburban landscapes, and the process in developing sign codes during the “Planning for Sign Code Success™” seminar on November 13 in Farmington, Conn. The day-long educational event was co-sponsored by ISA, the Northeast States Sign Association (NSSA) and the Signage Foundation Inc (SFI).

Since 2008, ISA and the Northeast States Sign Association have presented planner education events in Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Already in 2014, ISA, its Affiliated Associations and the Signage Foundation Inc. have educated hundreds of planners on the value of on-premise signs. Next year, ISA and its Affiliated Associations plan on unveiling new online educational resources geared to planners, as well as presenting additional planner education seminars in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
