More Red Tape for Sign Companies

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently announced a new rule that will impact America’s businesses, including many sign companies.

The final rule requires employers to notify OSHA when an employee is killed on the job or suffers a work-related hospitalization, amputation or loss of an eye. The rule requires all employers covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act, even those who are exempt from maintaining injury and illness records, to comply with OSHA’s new reporting requirements.

ISA worked with the National Association of Manufacturers to oppose this rule earlier this year, but OSHA will be moving forward with enforcing its new regulation, as it will take effect on January 1, 2015.

OSHA’s new rule maintains the exemption for any employer with 10 or fewer employees from the requirement to routinely keep records of worker injuries and illnesses, and provides a FAQ regarding the new rule.
