Los Angeles Takes Next Step on New Sign Regulations

Los Angeles Takes Next Step on New Sign Regulations

On Monday, the Los Angeles Planning and Land Use Committee held a public hearing on changes to the sign ordinance. ISA’s James Carpentier testified before the committee, along with members of the California Sign Association. The proposed sign ordinance includes updates on sign districts, requests for deviation from the sign regulations, electronic message centers, enforcement procedures and penalties. The Planning and Land Use Committee adopted the Planning Department reports with changes to the sign district and instructed the Planning Department to change the definition of on- and off-site signs to allow for cross-promotion. The committee also directed the city attorney to review the ordinance. After legal review, the ordinance will come back to the Planning and Land Use Committee one more time before being forwarded to the full council.
