Leave the Lights On

On Tuesday, the Tucson City Council held a hearing and unanimously approved a new Outdoor Lighting Code. ISA’s James Carpentier testified at the council hearing in support of the code, with a modification to the multitenant sign section. Because of ISA’s recommendation, the council agreed to remove ill-advised language that would have required multitenant signs to be shut off at the curfew time regardless of whether the business was open or closed. Members of the Arizona Sign Association, the Arizona Retailers Association and the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce supported ISA’s recommendations. The council directed staff to meet with stakeholders and come back with an alternative for multitenant signs within 30 days. For more information, please contact [email protected].
