ISA Releases Results of Sign Structures Research
ISA became aware of some structural issues affecting high-rise, telescoping single-pole signs a few years ago, and with the leadership of ISA’s board of directors and the ISA Technology and Research Committee, ISA sponsored independent engineering research to serve our strategic goal of supporting safety, quality and acceptance of signage products and services. In upholding ISA’s commitment to safety and service excellence, case studies of the incidents have been collected and analyzed, and two engineering studies have been conducted at the University of California at San Diego. The UCSD final report, Fatigue Tests of Welded Connections in Cantilevered Steel Sign Structures, has been completed and gives our industry new guidance into causative factors and recommendations for alternatives for repair, retrofit and new construction design types for high-rise freestanding signs. The research report can be found on the ISA website. For further information, contact Bill Dundas, director of technical and regulatory affairs, at [email protected].
