ISA and NEC
Building on a highly successful outcome during the 2011 National Electrical Code cycle, several of ISA’s proposals for the 2014 NEC were accepted by NFPA Code-Making Panel 18 at its January meetings in Hilton Head, S.C. The principal focus of these proposals is to enhance electric-sign safety and to integrate appropriate requirements into the code for the increasing number of signs that incorporate LED lighting and LED retrofits. Included among ISA’s successful proposals are new requirements applicable to retrofit kits for alteration of existing sign-lighting systems and new requirements for markings in cases where field wiring and installation instructions are required. Through the determined efforts of its Electrical Subcommittee, ISA continues to serve as a positive and proactive force supporting electric-sign safety and enhancing usability of the NEC.
