Government Affairs Efforts Impact Hundreds of Sign Users and City Officials
Educating local government officials about sign code development and retailers about how signs improve their bottom line brought sign industry experts to the International Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Show (IHMRS) and the National League of Cities (NLC) conference. ISA staff met with hundreds of hotel, motel and restaurant professionals in New York City to provide the latest research on the economic value of signs and on getting their businesses the signs they need and deserve. This is just one way ISA reaches out to the business community to get them engaged in the ordinance process and to promote the importance of the sign industry.
The NLC annual Congress of Cities & Exposition in Seattle, Wash., was another opportunity to meet with mayors, city council members and city staff – the very people who usually vote on sign ordinances. Attendees had their sign code questions answered by sign industry experts, first-hand.

“Our goal in participating in these events is to educate sign users and city officials from all over the country about the important role on-premise signage plays in the economic health of businesses and communities,” said David Hickey, ISA’s vice president of government relations. “By engaging in dialogue with organizations like IHMRS and NLC, during their shows and with sign users and sign regulators at the local level, we can help communities draft the most reasonable and effective sign code possible.”
