Florida Planners Learn About Signs
Nearly 40 local officials representing over 20 jurisdictions in the Sunshine State participated in Planning for Sign Code Success, a daylong seminar offered by the sign industry to educate planners about on-premise signs and sign codes. The event, which took place in Orlando on May 18 in conjunction with the Southern States Sign Council and the Signage Foundation Inc., offered area local officials the chance to learn about sign construction and technologies, how to effectively use and properly regulate digital signs, how signs economically impact small businesses and communities, and how to draft legal and enforceable sign codes. Participants were able to earn six credits of professional Certification Maintenance and also walked away with a treasure trove of resources from the industry to help them draft reasonable and beneficial sign codes. SSSC and ISA will continue to work with those who attended Planning for Sign Code Success and with other local officials in the region to represent the sign industry’s concerns. This was the second such event in 2012, and others are planned for later this year in Indiana, Texas and California. For more information, please contact [email protected].
