EMCs Allowed in Albuquerque, N.M.
On Oct. 17, the Albuquerque, N.M., City Council passed new regulations for EMCs that are a positive development for small businesses in the area. The language, which passed by a 7-2 vote, allows for an eight-second hold time, reasonable brightness standards and a 50-foot buffer zone from residential areas. A few months ago, the City Council had voted to ban all new EMCs, but Albuquerque’s mayor subsequently vetoed their efforts and, with the help of ISA staff and other key representatives of the sign industry, came up with this more reasonable and beneficial regulatory language.
