Educating Electrical Inspectors About Signs

Educating Electrical Inspectors About Signs

Most sign companies interact with electrical inspectors on a regular basis, as these inspectors have the authority to enforce the National Electrical Code® and approve installations of electric signs. Yet work on electrical signs is such a small aspect of the overall work that electrical inspectors do that there can be confusion, disagreement and delays on code proposals or interpretations of a specific rule, which can adversely affect the bottom line of sign companies.

That’s why ISA representatives are reaching out to educate members of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) by appearing at IAEI chapters to lead face-to-face discussions with electrical inspectors. ISA recently spoke to inspectors at the Washington DC and Maryland chapters of the IAEI, where there was productive debate and discussion regarding inspection challenges, presentations, new ideas and new products.

ISA will continue this in-person educational outreach to electrical inspectors about electrical signs in 2015 and beyond. In addition, ISA will be exhibiting at several regional events of the IAEI to promote the safety and acceptance of electrical sign products. ISA’s presence at these events establishes ISA as the resource for the electrical inspectors regulating sign products. For more information, please contact ISA’s Bill Dundas.
