Attorneys Receive Training in On-Premise Sign Regulations
The American Bar Association recently provided continuing education for attorneys on issues related to on-premise signage. ISA participated in the webinar for the ABA, which represents the city attorneys, land use lawyers, and civil rights advocates who work on sign-related legal issues.
The webinar, titled “Three Approaches to the Regulation of On-Premise Signs,” was the first time that the ABA has officially offered such a webinar or any other type of educational outreach focusing on on-premise signs. David Hickey, ISA vice president of government relations, moderated the presentation, while Dr. Dawn Jourdan with Oklahoma University, Alan Weinstein with Cleveland State University, Kathryn Hurd with the Federal Railroad Administration, and land-use attorney Brian Connelly presented their approaches to the regulation of on-premise signs.
Dozens of attorneys participated in the webinar and each earned 1.5 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits.
Providing education for attorneys and other local officials that regulate signage can help to create reasonable sign codes and a more positive atmosphere for sign companies. In addition to the work with ABA, ISA works with the American Planners Association to provide continuing education for planning officials. For more information, contact ISA’s David Hickey.
