A Clearer Path to Sign Industry Skills

Learning the sign industry means understanding how the pieces fit together, from permitting and design to fabrication and installation. For employers and employees alike, the challenge is often knowing where to start and what comes next.

ISA’s new Learning Paths give that process structure. Six paths combine industry-specific online courses with suggested schedules and recommended workplace activities to connect learning with everyday work.

“We want to make it easier for companies of all sizes to provide a structured training plan and give employees a clear path for growth,” said Brad Turpin, Jr., ISA’s Associate Director, Content & Training. “Learning Paths connect training to daily work and help employees learn and build confidence without feeling overwhelmed.”

Two new employee Onboarding Learning Paths introduce the full sign process. Sign Industry Fundamentals covers planning, regulations, permitting, design, and engineering. Sign Manufacturing & Installation Fundamentals explores materials, production, installation, and safety. Each offers a suggested four-week schedule to help new employees understand how departments work together.

Four Project Management Learning Paths (Essentials, Applied, Manufacturing, and Installation) address the skills needed to guide sign projects from planning through completion. Designed for new and early-career project managers and sales professionals, the paths follow a recommended sequence with approximately one week per path.

Suggested activities such as job shadowing, project reviews, and supervisor check-ins help employees connect concepts to real situations. Schedules can be adjusted to fit work responsibilities and opportunities to practice.

Employees who complete a Learning Path earn a digital credential recognizing their achievement, ready to share with employers and on professional profiles.

All six Learning Paths are included in the ISA Learning Hub All-Access Pass, or can be purchased individually, giving companies and employees a practical starting point for their next stage of development.
