Signage Foundation Inc., International Sign Association Release Wayfinding Manual, Related Educational Courses
Alexandria, VA – June 26, 2013 —
The Signage Foundation Inc. (SFI) and International Sign Association (ISA) released a new manual today to educate planners and local officials on developing wayfinding signage systems. The manual is accompanied by a series of webinars, the first of which launch June 27. The first webinar in the series is approved for 1.5 continuing education credits by both the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Architects, and those participating in the webinars will also receive a free copy of the manual.
Urban Wayfinding Planning & Implementation Manual, edited by Craig Berger (Craig Berger Consulting), includes resources to guide communities throughout the process, including conceptualizing, financing and maintaining a system. It includes case studies of communities around the world that have successfully implemented urban wayfinding programs.
“As we’ve built relationships with planners and local officials, they continue to ask us for resources on urban wayfinding,” said Lori Anderson, SFI board member and ISA president/CEO. “We are happy to partner with SFI to provide the latest research and case studies in this rapidly growing field.”
The first webinar, “Urban Wayfinding: Introduction to Wayfinding Systems,” will be conducted by Craig Berger, Craig Berger Consulting; Sapna Budev, International Sign Association; Dawn Jourdan, University of Oklahoma; and Erik Spiekerman, Bureau Spiekerman. Spiekerman will be discussing the famed Legible London project.
Berger and Budev will participate in subsequent webinars along with subject matter experts. The remaining webinars will occur monthly through November. AIA and APA continuing education credit approval is underway for those courses as well.
