James Carpentier, Proven Sign Industry Professional and Certified Planner, Joins ISA’s Government Relations Team

Alexandria, VA – May 17, 2011

James Carpentier, AICP, will join the International Sign Association’s government relations department as manager, state and local government affairs, on May 23.

Carpentier most recently owned a consulting firm that managed sign variances and entitlements for clients and worked with state sign associations on legislative issues. Prior to that, he was director of government relations for YESCO where, among other duties, he participated in educational and outreach efforts to government entities.

But the majority of his background has been in planning issues. He holds certification from the American Institute of Planning, and has more than 20 years’ experience as a planner in the public and private sectors in Wisconsin and Arizona.

“I have seen the initiatives that ISA has begun, offering educational seminars to planners, which I have advocated for many years at YESCO and as a consultant,” Carpentier said. “Planners lack so much information, especially good information, related to the regulation of signs. That is critical. The outreach that ISA is doing will definitely have an impact as planners look at ISA as a meaningful resource.”

In addition to his experience in the industry, Carpentier also has a background with ISA, having served in volunteer roles on the Legal Strategy Subcommittee and the Government Relations Committee. He will continue to be based out of the greater Phoenix area.

“We are thrilled to have James join our outstanding government relations team,” said Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO. “With his background in planning, he brings incredible strengths to the table, especially as we work harder to educate planners on the benefits of reasonable sign codes.”
