Spreading the Word About Signs
Nearly 130 planners and other code officials received extensive training from the sign industry last week through a webinar on Thursday and a day-long educational event on Friday in Memphis, Tenn. The March 15 webinar of Finding Common Ground taught 85 local officials from all over the country how to properly and effectively treat electronic message centers, while the March 16 event Planning for Sign Code Success educated 41 planners from 23 local jurisdictions on issues ranging from sign construction and technologies, the impact of signs on economic development, and the legal issues involved in the drafting and enforcement of sign codes. These events were cosponsored by the Mid South Sign Association and The Signage Foundation, Inc. ISA’s goal in providing these educational offerings to local officials is to encourage reasonable sign codes so that businesses and communities can benefit.
