Portland Officials Meet with Sign Industry
Officials from Portland, Ore. met with members of the Northwest Sign Council (NWSC) and ISA on June 17, to discuss several concerns regarding the administrative processing of permits. Sign companies around the country know firsthand that many localities have inconsistencies and other problems with their sign permitting standards. ISA’s James Carpentier participated in the meeting along with Patti King, Executive Director for the NWSC, several NWSC members and a representative of the Portland Business Alliance. City officials and the sign industry discussed time lines for the approval of permits, permit submittal requirements, the design review process and lack of code enforcement. The NWSC also offered to assist the city of Portland with staff training and urged city officials to meet with sign industry and sign user representatives on a regular basis to discuss sign code and administrative issues. City officials agreed to meet in the near future to continue to discuss these important issues. For more information, please contact James Carpentier.
