Onerous Sign Code Provisions Improved in California

Onerous Sign Code Provisions Improved in California

On Feb. 13 the Planning Commission for Oceanside, CA debated revisions to their sign code. ISA’s James Carpentier attended the hearing and testified on behalf of the sign industry. As a result, the Planning Commission removed ill-advised language mandating a lighting curfew for signs and cut the proposed hold-time for digital signs in half. The Planning Commission’s recommendations now go the Oceanside city council for consideration on Mar. 28, and the sign industry – including ISA and the California Sign Association – will continue to educate local officials on the importance of visible and effective signage for the community.
