Lonnie Stabler Honored for Dedication to Sign Industry

He was part of the sign and visual communications industry for more than three decades. And he spent most of that time as a member of the International Sign Association and Texas Sign Association. Last week, Lonnie Stabler was posthumously honored for his dedication to our industry.

The ISA International Sign Expo – the largest gathering of sign and visual communications professionals – seemed a fitting location to pay tribute to Stabler. He was a member of the Texas Sign Association (TSA) for 35 years and an ISA member for more than 30 years. He also served on the ISA Board of Directors and was active on ISA committees, including government relations.

“Lonnie was instrumental in helping the industry move into a collaborative relationship with code regulators, realizing that we all want the same thing: strong, vibrant communities,” said Chris Flejtuch, ISA Board Chair.

Stabler’s widow, Leona, accepted the Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award on her late husband’s behalf. Flejtuch presented the award during a ceremony at the ISA International Sign Expo in Las Vegas on April 10, 2015. Leona Stabler is the current Executive Director of the TSA.

Stabler passed away after a battle with cancer in December 2013. He lived in Bryan, Texas where he served as both mayor and on the city council.
