Just In: Arizona County Updating EMC Regulations and Light Pollution Code
On August 13, 2014 the Cochise County Planning Commissioners recommended approval of new guidelines for EMCs. ISA’s Manager State & Local Government, James Carpentier, testified at the hearing last night that the Planning Commissioners consider the following: a new definition for EMCs, exempt EMCs from the lumens cap, remove color and content restrictions (text only), increase the allowable height of EMCs to 75 percent of what is allowed for each road classification, allow for a decreased message change rate, and require automatic dimming on all EMCs. The Commission recommended approval of the proposed EMC regulations and Light Pollution Code. Additional information on the recommended new zoning regulations and light pollution code are available here. The County Board of Supervisors will hold a hearing soon on the proposed regulations, which will be posted on this link.
