ISA Helps Stop Restrictive Code in Michigan

Working with a coalition of local business leaders, ISA’s Kenny Peskin (@signcodeguy) and Wisconsin Sign Association Director Charlie De Moulin (Midwest Sign & Screen Printing Supply; New Berlin, Wisc.) successfully blocked passage of an updated sign code in Iron Mountain, Mich. Under the proposed regulations, businesses would be limited in the allowable type of illumination, and new restrictions would control nonconforming and freestanding signs. Additionally, the proposed ordinance relied heavily on language borrowed from legislation intended to regulate broadcast communications and off-premise signs (outdoor advertising). In the coming months, the Iron Mountain Planning and Community Development staff will be working with leaders of the business community to draft improved regulations as part of a new proposal. For more information, please contact Charlie De Moulin or Kenny Peskin.
