How Important are Electrical Inspectors to the Sign Industry?

How Important are Electrical Inspectors to the Sign Industry?

Proper interpretations of the National Electrical Code requirements for electric signs is vital to improving the overall regulatory environment for the sign industry. As part of ISA’s outreach efforts to promote the safety and acceptance of electric-sign products members of the ISA Electrical Codes & Standards Subcommittee are participating in five regional Section Meetings of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) in 2013. So far this year, ISA members have exhibited at the IAEI Southwestern Section meeting in Phoenix, Ariz., the IAEI Northwestern Section Meeting in Spokane, Wash., and the IAEI Western Section in Colorado Springs, Colo. These events afford excellent opportunities for ISA to interface with electrical inspectors representing local jurisdictions across the nation. The specialized expertise of ISA members in electrical codes and standards helps to answer local inspectors’ questions and to clarify various enforcement issues pertaining to electric sign projects. These efforts facilitate proper interpretations of the National Electrical Code requirements for electric signs, thereby helping sign companies meet their clients’ needs.

As evidence of ISA’s continuing influence in this sphere, ISA subcommittee chairman David Servine, Servine Sign Services LLC (WA), was officially honored for 23 years of IAEI membership during this year’s Northwestern Section Meeting. For more information, contact ISA’s Bill Dundas.
