Help Determine New Efficiency Requirements for Electric Signs
New national standards currently are being developed for portable (plug-in) and permanent (hard-wired) electric signs by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). With certain changes reflecting Canadian preferences, the proposed requirements are based largely on electric-sign regulations incorporated into the 2013 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24) published by the California Energy Commission.
Representatives of ISA and the Sign Association of Canada/Association Canadienne de l’Enseigne (SAC-ACE) are actively participating on the CSA Technical Subcommittees responsible for developing these standards. Upon publication, the requirements for portable and stationary signs will be incorporated as separate, stand-alone standards under the Electrical Energy Efficiency category of the CSA Standards. The proposed standard for Performance of Portable Signs is designated as C877 and the proposed standard for Performance of Stationary Electric Signs is designated as C880.
