EMC Moratorium in Chicago has Sign Industry Working on Resolution

Despite ISA testimony in opposition, on July 24, the Chicago city council established a moratorium on permits for most EMCs until April 30, 2014. During the next year, while the council and city staff draft revised EMC regulations, Ordinance O2013-4977 will serve as an interim measure prohibiting new electronic signs smaller than 100 square feet. At a Zoning Committee hearing, ISA’s Kenny Peskin (@signcodeguy) and a half dozen representatives of the on-premise sign industry testified about the impacts of the moratorium on the business community and regulatory alternatives to a moratorium.

ISA and the Illinois Sign Association are coordinating an industry-led group to advocate for a quick resolution to the moratorium and for business-friendly EMC regulations going forward.  For more information, contact ISA’s Kenny Peskin or Illinois Sign Association’s Brian Swingle.
