Code Issues Continue On
Sign regulations don’t stop, not even while the on-premise sign and visual communications industry holds its largest event, ISA International Sign Expo 2014.
Kenny Peskin, ISA manager of state and local government affairs, has worked on two issues that could have major impact on member companies while preparing to host sessions during ISA Sign Expo.
Peskin has worked with sign company members and the Illinois Sign Association on proposed regulations for EMCs in Chicago. Last summer, the city issued a moratorium on new EMCs while it drafted stringent regulations. ISA has worked on behalf of its members to influence the new regulations. Peskin recently met with city officials to discuss the issue and will return to the city for zoning commission and City Council meetings in late April.
In Des Moines, Iowa, a similar, long-standing issue has reappeared. The city has fast-tracked proposals to ban new pole signs, while rewriting legislation on EMCs and digital billboards. Peskin will travel to Des Moines again for a Planning and Zoning hearing May 1.
