International Sign Association Named Innovator for Government Affairs and Advocacy Work

Alexandria, VA – November 2, 2016 — The International Sign Association’s advocacy efforts at the local, state and federal level are being recognized by the National Journal Leadership Council Innovation Awards. The awards are presented to organizations for their work in advancing the craft of government affairs and advocacy.

ISA was interviewed by the National Journal Leadership Council earlier this year to catalog ISA’s work in storytelling as part of its advocacy efforts. ISA’s storytelling is designed to help local, state and federal leaders understand fully the impact that regulations and laws have on the sign, graphics and visual communications industry.

ISA and four other honorees were chosen from nearly 220 submissions and interviews. The criteria were based on the novelty and impact of the innovation as well as the potential for wide adoption.

“What we loved most about the International Sign Association’s work was how it focused the organization’s message to the outside world, but also how it strengthened the partnership between departments inside the organization,” said Aaron Young, managing director, National Journal Leadership Council.

ISA’s storytelling efforts are one aspect of a multi-pronged approach to advocate on behalf of the sign, graphics and visual communications industry. The storytelling initiative focuses on identifying communities which need ISA’s assistance with some type of sign code issue, working with the community and affected sign, graphics and visual communications companies and then providing case studies or testimonials of the impact. It is jointly owned by ISA’s advocacy team and marketing/communications.

“ISA is honored by this National Journal Leadership Council Award,” said Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO. “Our industry has a great story to tell of how signs build stronger businesses and communities. This only confirms the impacts that our advocacy efforts are having.”
