Retired General Stanley McChrystal to Deliver Keynote Address at ISA’s International Sign Expo 2011
Alexandria, VA – November 22, 2010 —
Retired Army General Stanley McChrystal, former commander of the U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan, will deliver the keynote address at ISA International Sign Expo 2011’s opening general session.
McChrystal will discuss how modern warfare, business, and politics all demand leaders who can implement change, not just talk about it. He will use examples from his career to address key leadership principles as fostering teams through shared ownership, maintaining a focused mission, and valuing transparency and inclusion.

McChrystal will offer valuable insight into leadership during difficult times. His vast experience on the frontlines of some of the most pressing issues of our day will no doubt inspire participants to hone their own management abilities no matter what they are facing.”
Gen. McChrystal will open the sign industry’s leading expo and educational event, which will be held April 28-30, 2011, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and Resort in Las Vegas. In 2010, more than 17,000 attendees from around the globe visited more than 160,000 square feet of expo space.

In addition to the full lineup of networking and educational opportunities during Expo, a day of Pre-Expo education workshops will allow participants to earn Professional Development Units and expand their knowledge of issues related to signage.
Called “one of America’s greatest warriors” by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, McChrystal can address issues of leadership, teamwork, and international affairs like few others. The son and grandson of Army officers, McChrystal graduated from West Point in 1976 and began training at the Special Forces School two years later.
In 2002, he was appointed chief of staff of military operations in Afghanistan. From 2003-2008, he commanded the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), where he was responsible for the nation’s military counterterrorism efforts around the world. During his tenure there, the JSOC was credited with the capture of Saddam Hussein and the killing of the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. He assumed command of all international forces in Afghanistan in 2009, where his assessment of the war there led President Obama to order 30,000 additional troops. He retired from the military in 2010.
